wanted to run a quick survey and see what many of you prefer when it comes to pharmacies. Do you guys like to go to a mom-pop pharmacy or do you like to go to a retail big chain like CVS, Rite Aid, or Walgreens ? Also, do any of you live in a neighborhood where you feel a mom-pop pharmacy would be a benefit to the community? Thanks in advance!
In my area there are several mom-pop Russian speaking pharmacies. Since I am not a Russian speaker I prefer to go the CVS which is close by and open 24/7.
I live in an area that has a mom and pop pharmacy on almost every block. There must be 15 pharmacies on one 15-block avenue. I don't understand how they all stay in business and it seems a new one pops up every few months.
That said, I do go to a long-established mom-and-pop pharmacy for prescriptions because the Rite Aid I went to originally had horrible customer service. When I shop for OTC items, I prefer going to larger stores (my favorite is Target) because I feel the selection is better. I have noticed the prices at Duane Reade are extremely high so I try to stay away from those.
When it comes to corner stores and pharmacies, it's the one time that I actually prefer the large corporate ones such as Walgreens, Rite Aid, CVS etc...usually because they carry better quality than the mom & pop places, plus they have better deals and more selections. Not to mention that they have a return policy and I don't always have to pay in cash. I also prefer the 711s, and Duane Reades to the bodegas for the very same reason. There's roughly 5 bodegas on my block and I would trade them all for one 711.
It's really an apples and oranges comparison. The small pharmacies don't sell the wide range of merchandise that CVS, Rite-Aid, etc. sell. If you just need prescriptions filled, a small pharmacy will often give better, and more personalized service. If you need to buy soda, snacks, hardware, cleaning supplies, cat food, and a lot of other non-medical stuff, the chain stores are the ones that sell that.
Usually CVS because there are 24-hour ones, but sometimes I go to a local, family-owned pharmacy because they sometimes have medicine that CVS won't have or won't be in-stock in a timely manner.

That's because they're not always filling "prescriptions", if you know what I mean
