finally.... a solid post

Except that schools are open all the time when it snows and there's never any major accident, because, well, the sky isn't falling

Kids and people should stay put regardless where you are because in weather situations like this you are taking a big risk when all services and infrastructure are not operating normally.

Some folks think they live in the city that business is normal. Imagine you are walking outside and a car lost control and slams into you.

How long do you think it will take for EMS to respond to you? They declared state of emergency so in cases like this that people can't sue if emergency services can't make it on time.

Days like this come and go and people need to accept the fact that this is what winter is about. We had a couple of mild and dry winters and we were due for days like this.

Wrong, accidents happen every day, but in this case people will blame the mayor and chancellor because that's what people do, and the media will pile on. Politically it's best to over react to these storms because the public will blame you if anything goes wrong. Bloomberg had to learn this lesson the hard way and it seems so will deBlasio.

Yeah the world is gonna end with a foot of snow! haha.....ask any EMS or Tow truck operator....there is more accidents on rainy days than snow days.

I will give that to you in regards to EMS response times....reality is, its not as busy.

the real problem is the continuous cold makes the snow left behind like cement and impossible to remove unless you are one of those nuts that runs out in the middle of the storm to try to "keep ahead of it" .

its only frozen if you don't plow it & let it freeze over night

The deal is to plow right after it stops. Sometimes I plow in the morning....last sunday, I plowed at 10pm. no problemo

This was my point. Because the freezing temperatures haven't let up for more than a day at a time, the snow has just been piling up.

I shovel all day when it's snowing. Since I work nights and most of the snow we've gotten this year has fallen during the day, I've been home while it's coming down. It is much easier to shovel 2" at a time than wait until 10" have piled up and started to freeze already.

I hate freezing rain. I don't mind a feet of snow but freezing rain is what makes things very difficult.
