Which is better with regards to safety as well as transportation as I need to use public transportation to Brookdale hospital .... Really concerned about safety as coming to NY for the first time with my baby

From Bellerose you'll likely be taking the LIRR to ENY and then the L train from there. I would imagine that Ozone Park would have a much easier commute. I'd say that the disparity in the commute is greater than the disparity in safety between the two areas.

I agree. There are no trains in Bellerose so the OP would have to commute as you suggested. In Ozone Park there's the A train and a great deal of options for public transportation.
Op, on Google Maps you can search directions from Ozone Park to Brookdale Hospital. The quickest route was the A to the L then the B15. Estimated time was 35 minutes. The other options range from 45 to 48 minutes. From Bellerose the shortest ride was one hour. All the options show the LIRR then transfers to the L or other trains. Keep in mind the LIRR is a separate fare.
As for safety, Ozone Park is not unsafe. I grew up there and moved when I got married. My dad still lives there so I'm there often. I'm not saying there is 0% crime because it happens everywhere but there are no violent crimes. I've heard many people say that homes near the casino were robbed when it first opened but I haven't much about that lately.

And if you do not want to worry about transferring, I think you can even just take the B15 from Ozone Park all the way to the Hospital.
Ozone Park is definitely the sketchier of the two neighborhoods. That's not to say it's a high crime area but I definitely would be more on guard walking through Ozone Park than Bellerose, which has a suburban feel to it. Ozone Park is a grittier area.

Yes, but that's on the N. Conduit side and depending on where the OP chose to live, it would be a bit of a walk to the B15. If the OP wants to be more central in Ozone Park they can take the A train to the B15. Looks like the best commuting option is the B15--it goes right to the hospital. There's also the A to the C and then the B60 and a 6 minute walk. That commute is estimated at about 39 minutes.
The good thing is that there's several options. When I searched using Bellerose to the Brookdale all I got was the LIRR first. When the railroad is delayed or not running and you don't have other options, you feel stranded.
