Hi everyone,

I am from Italy and I am looking to rent a room in Manhattan starting march say for a period of six months

what's a room worth in Manhattan? Meaning what is a fair price given to a room low-medium level in manhattan?

which are the most convenient places where to look at with a budget of $500-$600 a month?

Any suggestion or help is more than wellcome

$500-$600 a month? In Manhattan? Maybe you're talking about Manhattan, Kansas because that kind of rent is unheard of. Try the Bronx for that kind of price

Basically, a room in a two bedroom apartment is worth approximately half or a little bit more than half of the total rent. Two bedroom apartments cost around $3000 a month and higher (I suppose it's possible you could find one for $2500). So bascially if you have a 'room' in an apartment like that, it will cost you $1500 a month.

I have seen apartment shares in Manhattan listed for lower than that, but they tend to not go below $1000 for a room.

The best place to see what shared apartments are going for is on craiglist at new york city rooms & shares classifieds - craigslist then click on the image box so you only see ads with images and then hit search.

I highly suggest you look in Brooklyn or Queens or the Bronx instead of Manhattan with that budget.

Yeah in Manhattan you're looking at $1k++ for a room. I know someone who has a tiny room in the Village and he pays $1k, and I mean TINY, with no closet.

Definitely not Mahattan. You may find it in the Bronx, but even at the price you suggested, Brooklyn is not an option either.

Good luck! Try Craiglists for suggestions.

SMH at $500 to $600 a month budget. Yeah you MAY BE able to find a room but it will be like the upper westside or someplace past 96th st and you will be sharing it with PEOPLE and I mean PEOPLE.

Your best option is to expand your budget, look in another location, or find multiple roomates.
