My daughter is interning for Soshanna Fashion House from mid May to mid July and needs to find housing. Where to begin? The New School she was told is relatively new and clean as well as NYU an offers housing for summer internships. She needs to be close to Garment District. Any suggestions.Where is safe as she only knows two people in all of NYC so of course I am being a nervous mom. We have been looking on Airbnb. One place in Chelsea looks promising at a pricey 1800+/mo. Any and all suggestions welcome!

I heard FIT has summer dorms but don't know anyone who has stayed in them. Since your daughter is doing a fashion internship, maybe being at FIT would be a good match.

Airbnb does tend to be pricey for long term stays. Plus you have very little control over what kind of place you'd be renting in, and you wouldn't really be guaranteed that it's legal. At least with the dorms I would imagine you have some better expectation/guarantee of what you'd be getting.

My daughter is actually doing PR with a minor in fashion merchandising. FIT is ridiculously expensive! If she can find a shared situation for 12-1600 /month near the garment district then that is doable for 2 months! Just don't know how to find a "legal" place that isn't a scam!

Ask the company - or, better still, have her ask them - if either they have suggestions based on their experience with past interns, or if they are having other interns that she could confer with.

Or is she going to a college that has an alumni society?
