Why did the parade end at 79th street ? I was extremely dissapointed, it was such a beautiful sunny day and after reaching 78th street I was informed by the parks department that the parade was terminating at 79th st.

To my understanding the parade was supposed to end at 86th st.

What gives ?

The city cut the parade route a few years ago due to cost savings. All parades were shortened several blocks; Couple hundred less cops to pay for standing around 4 to a corner doing nothing.

Well the promoters wanted to run it all the way to Albany...but the governor objected.

The parade should be held on 6th ave, wider street and more sidewalk area.

Not to mention it spares the rest of the UES from 80th Street to 86th and beyond all the madness that comes with the PR day parade.

And DURING the Puerto Rican Day parade to have ANOTHER street fair on Third Avenue was complete and utter insanity.
Midtown East was PARALYZED.

The City should pay New Jersey an annual stipend and all parades and street fairs should be held in BAYONNE.

LOL! Thank God for that! The people who come out to watch this parade tend to be very rowdy and LOUD! I was thankful it ended where it did!

I live in the 80's. I didn't even know it happened until it was over. I find this kind of shocking, because it used to, quite famously, take over the neighborhood.

So do we, and yes it was rather quiet on Sunday. However towards the end of the afternoon we did have groups sitting in or around their vehicles yapping away at fog horn level. One woman piled herself an at least one other adult along with about six children (or more) into a Honda Pilot. The thing had PA plate so assume they drove in for the day, but cannot imagine that sort of thing is safe.

Personally IMHO ever since that nasty near rape incident several years ago the PRD parade has been a more quiet affair. Do remember that Bloomberg when mayor both in public and private chastised UES residents and businesses that are from Fifth to say Third Avenues from basically barricading their properties. *LOL*. The then mayor said it sent the *wrong* sort of message and was not necessary. A GF of mine promptly shot back " not all of us have 24/7 NYPD security stationed in front of our homes". No word how the mayor responded.
