I was just re-reading this interview with Patrick Stewart, who reported is a pleasantly unassuming guy to have in one's neighborhood. And New Yorkers are nonchalant, too.

Most Brooklynites leave him alone... “People are more concerned with being cool than getting his picture.” Stewart recalls once seeing a man on a stoop who clearly recognized him. “I thought, Ohhhhh, man,” says Stewart. “And as we drew abreast of him, he said, ‘Hey, Mr. Stewart, welcome to the neighborhood! Enjoy!’ ” Stewart smiles and repeats the phrase. “I mean, that’s pure gold, that.”

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Unlike folks in some other cities, most New Yorkers (paparazzi excluded) are very chill with celebrities. Mostly this is a live and let live city with thousands of famous people running around. We're used to seeing them and mostly respect their privacy because in a city this crowded we want other people, celebrity or not, to respect ours. And yes, not bothering the bold-face names really is the cool thing to do. It's just SO infra dig for NewYorkers to run up to a movie star in the street and ask for an autograph or start snapping pictures. We leave that to the tourists!

Played Captain Ahab in a made-for-tv adaptation of Moby Dick. Also played the villain in a couple of minor comic book movie adaptations and starred in an insignificant sci-fi television series.

I keep looking for him on the subway but I know it's futile finding someone who only needs to say "Beam Me Up."

I've worked with him professionally. He's a very nice man, completely unassuming.

He has an amazing reputation for being a super swell fellow. Native New Yorkers don't really go wacky for celebrities. I see many all the time here in the West Village where I work and nobody cares one bit. Only Paparazzi care especially with the Alec Baldwins of the world (who I see quite a bit). Its crazy too..the paparazzi are doing their thing and every new yorker just walks by drinking their coffee not giving a damn.
