Not really.

All news readers in NYC and pretty much the rest of the business elsewhere work under a contract system. That is they are hired almost pretty much like actors or sports players. At the end of said contract it is either renewed or dropped.

Obviously ratings and other factors come into play when it comes to news personalities working in the major markets like NYC. Look at Sam Champion who started out simply as a weatherman but now joins Matt Lauer and the rest of the very highly paid news "personalities".

Channel 2/CBS news had a great news reader one liked, Jim Rosenfield; but for whatever reasons his contract did not continue. Ch. 2's Quinn not so mighty at weather - NY Daily News

RIP.

I've watched him for years and always liked his news report and overall attitude. He had a great and distinctive voice.

I saw the news report shortly after he passed. All of the CBS news team were in tears. My heart goes out to his wife and 4(?) daughters. May the Lord bless them during this time.
