The boost cost effective and rugged piece of luggage you can own is a canvas military duffel bag. If you NEED wheels then the next level would be a Tactical Rolling Duffle by 511 Tactical.

I owned a Rimowa once and it was great for a few trips but then the zipper got broken into and the hard shell was worthless once that happened.

Tumi is good but it also screams ROB ME. Who the F owns a piece of TUMI luggage in this economy ????

When you travel with a military style bag baggage handlers think it is owned by a military personal.....less likely to steal something perhaps ?

If all that fails LL Bean rolling duffels are as low quality as I would go.

Kaufmans Army Navy on 42nd St. off 8th Ave

Houston between Orchard and Bowery. Little chinese owned army navy store up the block form Katz's Deli. Take F train to second ave stop and look across the street once you finished climbing the stairs.

I forgot to add I'm looking for something very cheap. I don't want any wheels and I prefer to have something with a combination code.

Something like these:

You would probably love the vintage Louis Vuitton trunk cases.

Maybe you should look on Ebay for these types of suitcases. They aren't the norm these days.

If anything Kmart has some lockable trunks but who knows if they meet airline standards.

Ok

I'm not looking to use it for traveling though.

It's strictly for storage.

Like a big money briefcase.

You might also look in PELICAN CASES. They make high grade hard cases/gear cases with locks. They can be expensive but they last a life time.

Google the company.

If you are looking for storage, does it have to be metal? If not, I would try the Container Store on the UES.

You can find a storage trunk such as: http://www.containerstore.com/shop?p...0&N=&Ntt=trunk or http://www.containerstore.com/shop?p...4&N=&Ntt=trunk and you can affix your own combination lock to them.

If you wanted a briefcase, or larger case, I would suggest Zero Halliburton, but agree that Pelican Cases are fantastic. ZH are very tough, too, but are more expensive, owing to the aluminum skin, and the image they project.
