This begs the point of who the police are really turning their backs on here, if the mayor represents the people of New York. Something to think about.
He cant win. If he didn't go imagine the backlash. But the man supposed to watch hundreds turn their backs on him at a funeral and thats cool. At a funeral.

Fine, but what was Chirlane McCray doing there? If I was a member of the family, I would have asked for her kindly to be escorted out of the church. She could go hang out with her friend Rachel Noerdlinger and the Rev Al. I would not want any racists that incited violence against my family member even indirectly in the church.

Wow. She can't pay her respects to the dead???

What is this board turning into??? Wow. I think I would tolerate the racists more than this. I honestly don't know what's worse anymore. I love this city - but it is going to hell. And we all in the same boat and you guys don't even realize it. Wow. Let me go make dinner for my kids. Wow. I'm speechless.

I guess you never lost a very loved person due to actions of another. The last thing one thinks of in this situation would be politics and the family would be oblivious to those who take advantage. You just try to get through each minute, each second. This family was so strong, so, so strong to get through this sad day in public and on television. It doesn't mean they agreed with a damn thing.

I like the Obama reference on that one.

If you turn your back on Commander-and-Chief of the military you'd be out of line of protocol.
Something to think about.

You serve your City and your Country before you serve the interests of your fellow solider / officer.
If you believe that's out of line and protocol you're in the wrong profession.

At its core, a funeral is a lifecycle ceremony (saddest one of all) to honor the dead and thereby help console the family. If the deceased or family observed a religion, the funeral also gives full expression to those beliefs at a service. All this, before lowering someone into a grave.

Every funeral attendee is there by agreement of the family. No group of work colleagues, even bonded "like family," IS the family to take over.

If the family invited, or agreed to have present, the city's elected mayor to convey respect from the people of the city... what possible right does a union chief of the deceased's colleagues have to even whisper those co-workers should demonstrate at his funeral?

I hold that union boss responsible for showing venality, disgusting beyond words, earlier this week that families should dis-invite a mayor. The union boss apologied for that midweek. So how did this demo today even happen?

I agree.

My cousin got stabbed and killed Mother's Day 1999 on Parkside Avenue in Brooklyn. His blood was on my aunt's gift. So you guess wrong.

They are lowlife, disrespectful scum. They are sheep and I would bet 98% of them haven't a clue why they're turning their backs. A bunch of asssholes who not only disrespected the mayor but disrespected their fallen brother.

I wish the WIFE of the officer had said something about their disrespect!

Patrick Lynch is a scumbag and I cannot wait for his corruption to FINALLY be uncovered for the world to see. This is a guy who cannot even look you in the eye when he speaks to you. He looks up in the air when he speaks. WTF is he looking at?!??!?!

The cops who blindly follow him are fools. Plain and simple.

The family of this officer wanted Mayor DeBlasio there. For Lynch (or whoever) to tell them to turn their backs?? DISGUSTING and SHAMEFUL.
