I will be a brand new nurse when I make my move. Is it possible to live in the city on say 70k? And it is just me, no kids or hubby. I'd like to live in the lower/midtown Manhattan area. I like to go out almost every night (3/4 nights a week). I really don't want to pay over 2,000 a month for rent.
It is possible to live on 70k, but it will be VERY hard if not impossible to find a job as a new grad nurse. And I really mean it. The market is beyond cutthroat. Be prepared for it to take you 6-9 months of applying to get an interview, and if you do not have a very strong GPA don't even bother. Once you have a year of experience you can find something in NYC. Until then, it's truly not worth trying unless you have major connections or a ton of time and money to survive while you apply.
Did you find a job so far? Its hard for me and I live here. I have Nada connections. Maybe its easier for folks that relocate here and/or if you connections. You can live in some parts of BK paying less than 2gs a month but it may be a not so popular area. But if you do find a gig, early congrats. Transplants seem to get lucky. Lol.

Yeah, the nurse industry is insane. For what it's worth, my ex, got a new grad offer in Newark. She lives in Jersey so a 35-45 min commute wasn't such a bad idea. She sent applications for about 6 weeks after grad. Maybe she was just lucky.
