What do i do with my guns? I have a few defense rifles and a whole mess of handguns. Most rifles hold 30+rds. Do i turn em in? Or do i just stash em in my house?

Find a place to keep them wherever you are coming from until you can secure the permits. Unfortunately, most of the rifles will probably be illegal here unless you are taking a law enforcement job.

Expect 6 months and around $400 total for the rifle/shotgun permit and about a year and way more money for a pistol permit. Then you have to FFL each handgun here to add them to your permit (rifles/shotguns will be easier).

NYC is NOT a true member of these United States when it comes to individual freedom, especially guns. Good luck. Thankfully I am exempt from the libby-feel-good nonsense these wackadoos pass on a regular basis.

On the bright side, you don't have to worry about anyone with a machete ever attacking you here.

I have a rifle and shotgun permit myself. It was more like $200 something for the permit and fingerprinting fees. It took me about 4 months, although one of my coworkers recently got theirs in less than 2.

You could always sell them locally before you move or on line at a sight like Gun Broker. You would need to go through an FFL to make the transfer if out of state.

You'll fit right in with the locals.

The second amendment does not prohibit the regulations of guns by local and state governments. The Supreme Court agrees. There is nothing un-American about gun regulation, so either hurry up and move somewhere more gun-friendly or stop whining about it. It's tiresome and annoying. No-one is forcing you to live in this yuppie paradise.

Even though the NRA has managed to basically kill funding for any substantial studies on gun violence, what evidence we do have points to the fact the stricter the laws/regulation the less gun violence per capita the state has. There are exceptions like D.C., which isn't really a state, but gun friendly states like Arizona have a much higher rate of gun violence than NY. Also interesting to note is that gun violence is higher among conservative Americans then yuppie liberals.

I worked with a guy that had a pretty headline grabbing case in jersey city last year where he's been locked up for having illegal guns in his house.
This was a white collar worker, nice guy, etc. something happened like the landlord needed to access his apartment in an emergency, saw the guns, called cops, and here was this guy that worked at an investment bank locked up - and believe he still is. May be more to the story and I'm sure you can find it if you search, but it would make me really think twice about just trying to keep a low profile.

Good luck. See the above post for an idea of who you're going to be living around. The people here are mostly progressive drones unworthy of the protection afforded by a personally carried firearm anyway. Thankfully, none of their feel good crap applies to me.

LOL!

Maybe the OP could just leave them with responsible relatives? You can always visit them from time to time - the guns and the relatives.

If it turns out you will become a permanent resident, you might as well try to sell them before you move.

If any are over 100 years old, they are classified as antiques, and Im not sure you need to permit them at all - but check on that. Dont take my word for it.
