how much would a taxi cost for a 1 1/2 mile ride? is it better to just walk this distance? but in the NYC cold in feb, how long would this walk take? thanks!
Half a mile? That's only ten blocks!!! NOTHING! Bundle up, put on your Reeboks and hoof it! That's what New Yorkers do. I walk a mile to work every morning....and, of course the mile home every evening.
should take about 30 minutes, but you might have to add on time if you get stuck waiting at a lot of traffic lights or if there are weather issues like snow, rain or excessive puddles. The thing that confuses me is that you have limited your options to
1.walk
2. taxi
what happened to the most common way to get around NYC - subway??
maybe if you tell us the start and end destinations we could be of more assistance.
51 St & Lex to 52 & 11 is a long walk.... taxi may be you best bet. But you could head up to 57 St & take the cross town bus. will take you longer but it certainly cheaper.
The other option if you don't like buses (I tend to prefer the subway) would be to take the E train from 53rd and Lex and get off at the 50th St. stop, which is located at 50th St. and 8th Ave. Then it is just a couple of (long) blocks to walk to your destination.
