I'm not sure how I feel about this.

(Orange is the new black spoiler if you are not up to date on latest season)
Reminds me of the underwear business Piper has going on in jail...

But anyway, I don't think they should be paid a normal wage. They are in jail, they should be happy they get paid at all. But also I don't think its ok for whole food to sell products made by inmates unless the put on the package made by inmate 16283681 from Rikers.

No,not at all. I didn't say that at all. I said whatever they make should go to benefit their victims or society in general not outside corporate executives and shareholders.Actually don't care what they get "paid."

Oh ok. I like the idea of it going to the victim/victims family.

Do you want to rehabilitate people and make them productive members of society so they don't reoffend, or do you just want to punish people to make yourself feel righteous? Because guess which one leads to overpopulated prisons and homeless problems that people are always complaining about?

Wait how do I feel righteous? The people did crimes to put themselves in jail, it is something they chose to do.
I don't believe you can rehabilatate most criminals.

If you want criminals to get paid min. wage, then they are making roughly 19K a year.
Mean while the single mother not in jail is working a mintage job making the same amount while she has to pay for her child, place to live, bills and food. So tell me how it that fair? If people made almost 20K a year in prison people would commit crimes just to go there. 5 years in the pen gives you 100K. Petty good money to get your life together.

Liberals. Damn liberals. But I have to admit. Inmates need work and skills to he built upon time of release they would have necessary skills for employment. As a populist, I think the government needs employers public and private to no discriminate felons from employment.

The culture in the U.S. at present is more based on retribution. In some other countries the focus is more on rehabilitation and as a result far fewer inmates reoffend. We are far too wiling to throw adults and children into prison for even relatively minor offenses--it's irrational.

Also, most prisoners don't walk out with 100k in savings from their 75 cents an hour jobs. They spend that money in the commissary on snacks and personal care items.
