I am leaving the life I built in Texas to relocate to New York with my child. Texas is affordable, everything is bigger and modern. I make good money and I am happy here. The only thing is that my boyfriend had to move back to NYC for work and he is all over the place as he serves in the military part-time. He recommended that I move to the east coast for us to be closer and I am considering it. He shares a house with a roommate and I don't feel comfortable bringing my son in there so I would like to move somewhere affordable (my bf is giving me some money upfront for the rent and deposit). I would also like to move somewhere that's no more than an hour away from Brooklyn. Any suggestions?

Kind of hard to provide you with any suggestions if you don't provide pertinent details such as budget, do you need a good school district, do you plan on working/if so, where would your job location be, etc etc

this sounds like a typical case of you making a huge mistake coming to new york. sounds like you and your son would be better off in texas. gotta think of what would be better off for your child and texas wins by a longshot - unless of course, you have unlimited funds...which it doesnt sound like u do.

if you are looking to be within an hour of Brooklyn, Long Island may offer more of what you are look-in for than NYC proper. Housing costs do vary but in general the south shore is more affordable. Check out the LI forum for more specifics on different towns.

Do yourself a huge favor and stay in Texas. But then again love is love and if you want to be near your boyfriend, he should provide a space for you two to share along with your son.

Is your boyfriend going to move out with the person he lives with now and live with you? If not stay in Texas. Why would you move half way across the country for a man and then not even live with him?

I agree. I think you should wait until your boyfriend's current living situation can be terminated. Then you can find a place appropriate for the two of you plus your son.

Have him buy a house that he likes and then move in with him.
