I just read an interesting article on a few Brooklyn historic disasters that occurred in the 1800-1900s

Worst Brooklyn Disasters: Park Slope Plane Crash & More | Brownstoner

I also read another article a few weeks back on the Triangle Shirtwaist fire back in 1911.

Are there any other NYC historical tragedies that come to mind?

Although I was not born for the blackout in 1977, my dad always told me about it.

My son was born during the 2003 blackout. I was still in the hospital with a bunch of visitors right before the power flickered. (generator kicked in).

The burning and sinking of the General Slocum in 1904. This disaster helped destroy what was left of the neighborhood of Little Germany on the Lower East Side.

It remains one of the worst maritime disasters in NYC.

November 12, 2001 Flight 587 - 266 died. That's baffling as I don't remember this incident at all.

There's a monument in Tompkins Square Park to the victims.
