Nothing changed really, the penalty for an oper container was usually a ticket to begin with.
It usually is just a ticket. Jails and police resources are better used for more serious offenses I think. Also with warm weather now more felony crimes like robbery and assaults will be taking place, police will have a lot more to be concerned with then a guy brown bagging a cold one on the walk home from the subway after work. I think many of us has done this before.
I guess people on here can't read, "Every offense that was prohibited yesterday will still be prohibited tomorrow", that means you still get a ticket and are held accountable with the civil justice system. You just won't get surrounded by ten squad cars and get arrested for public urination (which I have witnessed), while people are getting stabbed for IPhone's.
