NYPD uses a mix of Ka & Laser. I believe SCPD & NJ uses Ka. I have a radar detector and jammer...never had a ticket for 15+ years.


I am still a bit careful at the usual spots because the cop can estimate your speed with the other cars around you....for example if you are pulling 80 and everyone is clocked at 65.

I follow the 10 mile rule - always stay roughly within 10 mph of the posted speed limit and always below that when taking a blind turn or driving past an expressway U-Turn area. If it's a clear path forward I'll floor it to 85 and bring it back down to under 75 before the hill tops off or the road bends again
