Hi guys.. I am from Maryland and last week I traveled to NYC.
I did not know it was not allowed to turn right with red light. (in other states, you can turn right with a full stop).
I really didn't know this. So I was given a ticket by an officer.
the ticket says, "You must answer this ticket within 15 days of the date of offense".
But when I went to dmv.ny.gov/eplead.htm and the website complained that my information was wrong.
I called the bureau and the operator told me it would take 30 days for the ticket to appear online.
This is ridiculous. Is this normal? Shouldn't this ticket be in the database immediately?
Yeah, it can take awhile to show up. Just make sure you enter the number correctly off the ticket and go forward with the process.
BTW, 30 days seems CYA overly long. They typically show up sooner than that. FWIW.
Also BTW, I don't know if you plan on fighting it, but ignorance of the law is no excuse. You are responsible for knowing what you can and can't do. I doubt they will let you off. Best of luck, though. Other things to be aware of driving in NYC include that the entire city is a tow away zone. Most cities post tow away zone signs, you won't see that in NYC because EVERYWHERE is a tow away zone. If you park crappily and come out and your car is gone, it probably wasn't stolen. 15 feet for fire plugs, you have to pay Muni Meters even if you didn't park right next to it, etc.
I've had tickets that never showed up online, and its usually the handwritten ones by regular officers. They were probably too lazy to ever process it. I've ignored these, and so far years later, no consequence.
The tickets that always pop up online are the electronic ones the meter maids give for parking violations.

It's been my experience that it usually takes a while for the information to update on the website unfortunately. Whatever you intend to do make sure you make copies of everything and have confirmation numbers.
