Seems to me there's another factor - most buildings don't let you run businesses out of your apartment.
It is illegal per zoning and other NYC ordinances to run most any sort of business out of a residential building. Where it is allowed you have zoning that gives commercial and residential as part of the zoning.
For one thing strictly residential buildings do not carry insurance against liabilities resulting from a person or persons engaging in commerce. If a "customer" slips, falls, or otherwise becomes injured either in the business owner's apartment and or common area, they are going to sue the property owner.
The other and greatest reason against commercial activity in a residential building is that the thing is just that; a place were persons are supposedly meant to live in peace and quiet, without the distractions and safety issues that come from someone engaging in commercial enterprise.
Bringing this on back home as it relates to indoor prossing, that is how many get caught. Neighbors and or others contact LE due to the amount and frequency of "men coming and going from apartment at all hours...".
Back when there was Screw Magazine and Village Voice ran "escort" adverts knew several persons who would find those newspapers in their hallways or lobbies. They were left there by "Johns" before or after they had done their business. In particular a few friends and co-workers who lived in Yorkville (once a large area of prostitution for street walkers), had huge issues with trannie hookers working inside apartment buildings. This was in the 1990's and thankfully it seems is largely gone.
NYC can and has "sealed" apartments under nuisance abatement laws where repeated prostitution arrests have taken place. The city also can go after the owner regarding use of property for "commercial" reasons without proper permits/zoning. They do this because in a great many cases landlords know fully well what is going on inside. If they didn't it became known after the first or subsequent arrests which normally are not just reported in local news media, but IIRC NYPD and or the DA's office can send notice to owner of record what is going on with their property. Failure to take action can lead to serious consequences and repercussions including charges of promoting prostitution.
Yes in the alleged land of the free, it is illegal in NYC and most states. There are counties in Nevada near Las Vegas where it is legal I think. Apparently women can't do whatever they want with their own bodies - there are in fact restrictions. Unless there is a fetus living inside it and then they can. So there you have it - its not legal to pay for sex but it is legal to pay for someone to kill the sometime living result of sex.
Are you referring to escorting or outright prostitution?
First of all male/gay prossing has become a huge business. Just see linked story above.
As for the whole "never pay for sex" debate; there is that old standard line; you pay a hoe to "go", not to stay.
As we have seen countless times over the past decade many famous, wealthy and even very attractive men pay for sex. They do so because of the above reason; it is a finite business transaction. No taking some chick or guy on a date, dinner, or whatever and having to endure a bunch of nonsense and *MAYBE* get sex. Nor do you have to worry about ten thousand texts or calls the over the next few days asking to make "plans", invited to be the "plus one" at some wedding or family event, etc...
Long story short, you it hit, then forget it. No having breakfast, glass of OJ, someone lolling around your place the next day not taking the hint they need to go.....
Prostitution has existed for thousands of years and obviously there is a reason, otherwise the thing would have died out ages ago.
I myself would never pay someone to have sex with me.
That's a big lie. Are you going on dates hoping to get laid? If so are you paying for the dates, dinner, entertainment, transportation, new clothes/laundry/dry clean and cologne to go your date. Hotels in case you have no place for the action to take place. Are you buying gifts for your date, getaways all in the hope you have or continue to have sex with the person?
Point is you have to spend money one way or another to get some
