I have been looking at some rentals around this place. However, it's hard to know remotely. Would appreciate if someone could comment on the surroundings, safety, and the general vibe of the area. Thanks!

I lived near there for 10 years. It's basically a dead zone, but close to midtown Manhattan.

Could you please elaborate? Did you enjoy living there? Was it safe for a single woman?

It's definitely safe, there's just not much going on there. But easy commute if you work in Midtown.

It's not the Upper West Side, there are major housing projects nearby, but with some basic common sense you'll be perfectly safe. It's fairly close to the amenities of Astoria (decent shopping and restaurants). Not enough green space for my family, but it was fine as a bachelor, and its very close to midtown on the N train.

I lived at 41st Ave/24th St for four years and now live at 41st Ave/29th St in LIC. Being close to so many train lines is a blessing and the area is slowly getting more bars, restaurants, and grocery stores to meet the rapid rise in residential development.

The Queens Plaza area is pretty busy during the day but dies down a lot on the evenings and weekends. Safety has never been an issue for as long as I've lived here.

My wife and I do most of our retail shopping either on Steinway or by Queens Center Mall. For nice nights out, we usually go to Astoria or Vernon Blvd. Gantry Park is THE place to be in the summer time.
