Idk, I walked around my old neighborhood in Washington Heights at all hours. But as a tourist you need more discretion.

I used to live near there and would feel totally safe at any time of the day/ I still would take an uber in the morning but I think it's far fetched to say "stay away". The area is fine. This could happen anywhere. just another reason for white people to be afraid.

City College is up the hill from where this woman got assaulted, and it's a major academic institution. The area is not that dangerous. This assault happened, but I've seen blood on the E train station in Midtown.

There's a big difference between the uphill CCNY area and the downhill central harlem area. The transition is very sharp.

She wasn't that far from City College and the transition is not that sharp. A robber/sex offender caught someone unaware light at night, someone who may have been drunk. It's sad what happened to her, but the neighborhood isn't that dangerous. Assaults like this can and do happen all over Manhattan, as well as any big city.

There are violent criminals and mentally ill people that should not be roaming the streets. NYC is full of predators. The state does a terrible job at making sure that dangerous people are not compromising public safety by being on the street.
