Default Archdicese to Close Six Schools

Due to high operating costs and declining enrollment the Archdicese of NY is closing six elementary schools....St. Pius V in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx will close in June.....Other schools are Holy Rosary, Hawthorne, NY, Immaculate Conception, Irvington, NY St. Lawrence O'Toole, Brewster, NY Immaculate Conception, Stony Point, NY and St. Catherine of Plerastrea, Blauvelt, NY......there was also be a merger of some schools in the Bronx and Port Chester.

St. Pius in the Bronx, pupils will be able to move to St. Jerome which is approx. one mile away. St. Pius HS and church will remain open. With tuition raising and middle-class families struggling to survive, many just can't afford to pay the monthly tuition and the Archdiocese should help in any way that they can to make sure that there parish families get a good education.
