Given that he's a Democrat, any democrat is going to have a huge uphill battle to get the nomination. Challenging an incumbent of your own party is a big political no-no. And he'll be term limited out in four years. So any active Dem politician who seriously wants the job will simply bide their time til '21.
And give Trump's vast unpopularity in NYC, I can't see a Republican having a chance. Unless things had fallen completely to hell in Bla's first term (which, somewhat surprisingly, they haven't) no Republican would stand a chance. This and the fact that the Republicans have a weak bench in NYS in general and NYC in particular, means they aren't getting it.
I don't see a viable republican candidate so this is probably right. It's crazy how hard it is for Republicans in new york to produce from within the party competent candidates.
