That's what I thought when I read the OP. And it's also it's oldest street. It predates the start of the city of NY.
Manhattan is what most people think of when they think of NYC. It does function as the center of NYC. And at one time it was the entirety of NYC until the merger.
Brooklyn is very important though, and tons of tourists go to North Brooklyn
As others have said, Broadway is our *Main Street*. It runs from one end of Manhattan and continues all the way up into Riverdale and finishes at the Westchester border, becoming *South Broadway*. Would it kill some people to look at a map before running their mouths?
I feel like some people don’t actually understand what the OP actually wrote. If his post is directly citing a literal Main St on Roosevelt Island and in Brooklyn, then what do you think he is actually asking? If he’s emphasizing the irony of it, what do you reckon he’s actually pointing at?
Every city has a Main Street except NYC in its core doesn’t, why not?
There’s one in Brooklyn and Roosevelt Island But I don’t see one in Manhattan proper, nor is there a Sesame Street
They didn't "name" it Main steet but it's Broadway. Broadway is Main Street in Manhattan.
IMO, these are the main streets in the boros but some people may challenge me on it.
Third Ave is Main street in Bronx.
Eastern Parkway or Atlantic Ave is Main street in Brooklyn.
Queen Blvds is Main Street in Queens.
I don't know what's Main street in Staten Island
New York City was once nearly a dozen cities which have been combined.
Many areas have 'main' streets because of this, but you obviously can't consolidate everything into just one.
Broadway in Manhattan was the Main thoroughfare of New Amsterdam. It was called "The Great Highway", which led to (Nieuw) Haarlem.

Did you also know that the Disney Parks in other countries still have Main Street USA's with the US Flag in their square (often accompanied by that of the country they are in).

Am impressed to see someone spell Dutch names correctly. Have some that leave off letters. Van Cortlandt Park is a regular one on here. Stop leaving off the *t* at the end.
