same here the first time , your rushing around all morning ( me coming from si ) trying to get to the medical by 6 am then u got paper work and all that other stuff goin on , then they wanna take your blood pressure after all that , they made me sit outside and wait for a few mins before redchecking it , which i thought sitting there thinkng about it at that point would have made it go higher , alot off ppl got jammed up on blood pressure , theres gotta be a fairer way for them to do that part
Na people have to pass that so the city can cover themselves. They made me wait and sit for the few minutes as well and it was fine after that.
I went through one of the toughest 4 year apprenticeships in New York City. I believe if you do what you need to do, 18 months shouldn’t be a problem.
It's not so much the work that is intricate, takes a high level of skill or exceptionally hard...its straightforward once you get used to it and get better... and it varies depending what borough.garage you wind up in. its 18 months of no calling out sick, being on time/early... keeping up with the schedule changes on the whim/daily...and trying to avoid the 100's ( not exaggerating) of ways to get complaints from supervisors and honest to God accidents with the vehicles. you have to be on your P's and Q's all the time and try 110 percent and....BE RESPECTFUL. if you give your best your rep will precede you. if you can make it through with discipline and honest effort with respect to the agency and its rules and importantly the ever watching PUBLIC..its obvious even to the bottom guy in the hardest working garage...IT GETS BETTER.

Listen 95% of the time you will only get a complaint if you do the same dumb thing more than once. Other than that the supervisors know you are on probation. You can call out sick. If you are sick you are sick. Just don’t make it a habit. You can go emergency. Don’t think you are held hostage like some of these guys on here say. Act like an adult and you will be fine. Don’t pee dirty. If you gonna be late call. If you wake up late call. It’s not that hard. Accidents are accidents. As long as you don’t kill anyone you are fine.
Hey is it worth calling in to be reinstated? I am in the 3000's, have the CDL, passed the medical in 2018 but declined to retake the medical in 2019. Yes I know I would have been OTJ this summer but I would not have been able to accept, thus the decline in early 2019....
I understand the list expires on March 16, 2020? Is this still true?
If I call to be put back and made eligible is it a waste of time? Will they still use this current test to hire in 2020 or 2021?
thanks for any info?
