I was recently offered a job teaching at a school in East New York, right by Linden Park. I really want to take the job but I'm a bit concerned about safety in the area. I'm a smallish woman in my 20s and wondering if I would feel safe taking the subway to that area and walking about four blocks from the subway to the school. It would always be in the day, never at night, during regular commuter hours. I've seen a few threads about the East New York area on here and I know there are safety concerns but I've also heard it's getting better recently. I'm just wondering if safety in that area is a big enough concern that I should consider not taking the job. Thanks!
Not sure if you've ever tried to teach inner city kids in the ghetto but I would advise that you had better be a very strong person mentally and physically. It's a daunting task to try to teach kids from broken homes who have nothing to lose. It is emotionally draining. Good luck.. someone has to take on these tasks.

I don't have direct experience in teaching ghetto kids; but based on a few casual encounterings with that type of kids, I could totally imagine how draining it can be to work with a bunch of them on a daily basis. Mr. Bluedog can share his insights on this.
