Since we're ragging on neighbors and all, wonder if this happens in other buildings.
There are several persons who leave their Amazon or whatever delivered packages in lobby for days or even weeks. No, they aren't away or whatever because see them in hall and or hear their voices.
One in particular has tons of things delivered almost daily and leaves things sitting in lobby until whatever prompts to move. This even though must pass both mail boxes *and* all those packages to reach elevator or stairs. That means at least twice a day (to leave and return home) they have to pass those GD boxes.
Yes I have noticed this too in my building. Lots of packages lying around unclaimed in the lobby. Though some packages actually belong to residents of other buildings ie incompetent post office ie lost package.

Called FedEx and UPS several weeks ago and told them straight out; next time either of their drivers leaves a package at my front door that doesn't belong to me, much less anyone in building, it's *MINE*.
Am tired of chasing down delivery people and or leaving packages with notes on them in lobby.
Where the #@9! are they getting these delivery people anyway that they cannot read a simple printed address?
Some of the Fresh Direct, Amazon, and others yes, look as if they just came out of Jue-Vee, or upstate, but UPS and FedEx? Those are union guys and no need for that kind of nonsense.
In my building, periodically our super will bring any package sitting in the lobby directly up to the unit’s door and leave them there, so nothing sits for too long in the lobby.
Of course the real way to address this issue is to live in a building with a doorman.

Your super is a sweetheart! Or the tenants tip him greatly during Christmastime.
Not if you have a ditzy (or unscrupulous) doorman.
So far, I don't have a problem with mine (knock on wood). But at my mom's place (where there's no doorman and a non-sweetheart of a super), the problem has been with USPS not delivering but saying that they have. Solution: Amazon Locker. So far, it's been my hero.
Sometimes a neighbor or even super will put packages in front of door, especially if they have been sitting in lobby for a period of time.
However some people won't because they "don't want their hands on it", in case something goes wrong or whatever. Our building has cameras in lobby and halls so anyone taking a package would be recorded. It would also show one assumes if they left it somewhere in building, or took it home.
Only time I move a package is if Amazon or whoever leaves things in the outer vestibule just off the street. Anyone could reach in and grab, so will move into lobby for protection.
Maybe there's some sort of passive aggressive way of dealing with it that would be legal but so annoying to the person leaving the package there for days that they might think twice about doing it again.
Something along the lines of those horrible stickers the city used to put on cars that were parked on the wrong side during street cleaning.
Definitely have this problem in my building. In the last couple of years the sheer amount of amazon packages I see daily has like quadrupled. Seems people are even buying paper towels on amazon. Maybe that's why they'll just leave the package there until they need it...because the contents are not valuable at all.
People need to start getting package lockers in their buildings.
We got some last year and they're great
The Post Office will supply them to your building for free
How it works is the mailperson puts the package in the package locker, and the key to your locker in your mailbox
You come home and use the key in the mailbox to get ur package
Between that and Amazon Locker, nobody should be missing packages anymore.
My building was supposed to get a virtual doorman for such things. Can FedEx and UPS also leave packages in those "lockers"? I've seen them in other buildings and that appears to be the case, but that may vary on a case-by-case basis.
