Step inside the Bronx's first hip hop-themed restaurant

Beatstro

135 Alexander Ave, Bronx, NY 10454

(718) 489-9396

Stepping into Beatstro in Mott Haven is like stepping into hip hop's early days.

"And if you look up top, we have an exact replica of what Grand Master Flash used to create his switchback technique," said Alfredo Angueira, the restaurant's co-owner.

Angueira says the mock vinyl shop is like a speakeasy, concealing the borough's first hip hop-themed restaurant.

Wow old school classic stuff. Interesting concept. Rap and hip hop was really fun back then.

Bushwick is barely “the next bushwick”. That neighborhood is huge and most of it is a sh1thole.

Will they keep it 100% gully???

i remember there was a restaurant in BK created by some Canadian white woman that was selling wine in a brown paper bag, had gun shots on the walls, etc. People cried racism and the lady had to shut down i believe.

I think so. The co-owner's a Bronx native and all those involved seem to have a knowledge and respect for old school rap. Not some corny mis-appropriation.
