I have no problem with speed cameras, but I do have a problem with making every street have a 25mph speed limit. It is way too low, especially for major throughfares in the outerboroughs. I also hate how the city often places the camera's in "Gotcha" spots, such as immediately off highway exits.
I live near the Queens/Nassau border and several main roads go from 25mph in Queens to 40mph in Nassau as soon as you cross the city line. The character of the roads are essentially the same other than the invisible boundary. 25mph is way too slow for a divided roadway with two or three traffic lanes in each direction.
Are you referring to Hillside Avenue?
Whats really funny is the speed limit for Jericho Turnpike. Its 25mph on the westbound side but 35mph on the eastbound.

If this were actually about public safetly, there would be giant signs and pictures saying "TRAFFIC CAMERA COMING UP", "TRAFFIC CAMERA RIGHT HERE". That would bring the violations down to 0.01%. But they don't want to do that because they want to trap drivers and collect the fines.

What's funnier is these cams are only authorized in school zones so "kids" are kept "safe". Except that pedestrians don't cross Jericho turnpike at that location....

The one camera on eastbound Union Tpke is clearly a money grabber and not ment for safety.
The governor signed an 'emergency' executive order reinstating the cameras for the new school year. I wonder if it would withstand a legal challenge. I mean it's not a true emergency if an emergency is what's needed to reinstate an expired law.

Except people on C-D don't get to decide what's an emergency in regard to executive orders. There is a lot of latitude. The courts get to decide it - based on what the attorneys argue. Its actually likely to pass muster.
We've been under a emergency housing rent control situation in NYC since WWII remember.
I didn't say I decide what is an emergency, I said I wondered if it would pass a legal challenge. That's quite a different thing. I don't know anything about emergency housing rent control since WWII. Has that been extended every month since WWII as this measure would have to be extended?
Cuomo declared a "State Disaster Emergency" to enable the speed cameras. Maybe it will stand but I don't see how any reasonable person could consider it a "disaster".
