I think you might be happy at GENE'S on 11th St. just off Sixth.
Gene's Restaurant

I've never had a bad meal there.

If you are on the UES, NICK'S is pretty good but Gene's is a bit classier.

I have been there and would have recommended it, but thought it might be too formal for what the OP is looking for

LaMarca on Third Avenue. Open weekdays only.

Try the carbonara.

Take the free Ferry from Whitehall and head to Staten Island. Within walking distance is a truly authentic Italian place, Enoteca Maria. Cash only. You'd be fine in a T-shirt, we don't judge fashion on Staten Island.

Down the block a bit on Bay Street is Bin 5, a modern Italian-style restaurant that I cannot rave enough about. It's fantastic.

There are plenty of other choices on SI that rate very highly, but you'd be taking quite a trip via MTA as our transit options here suck.

LOL You can say that again. You guys could use some fashion tips, especially the overweight ones that run to and from their car. They need to be directed towards the nearest gym.

I'd be very likely to punch anyone who tried to offer me fashion tips. My style is grunge 90's and it will always be that way!

I am all about the gym though. Fat is something I don't see in the mirror. It's a shame how many people don't know that you can eat like a fat kid fairly often if you train hard!
