I dont care what no one says about Bedstuy & Bushwick most of those places aree soo over rated and over prices. Bushwick looks like it got bombed out for the most party. I just cant justify tbhose 1300 one bedroom apts when you have Linda the crackwhore chilling outside. Also there are many challenges in this area now that the L is not working.
I simply don't see the justification of paying so much to live in a dump. The market seems to correcting itself in nyc so I will wait it out and see.
I agree with you and I'd never live there, certainly not now.
But hipsters seem to love that kind of stuff and find it adds "character" to a neighborhood

I live in Bushwick and I do appreciate the grittiness! I don't think the neighborhood is that dangerous or anything like that, though
I live in Bushwick and hang out in Bed Stuy sometimes (have quite a few friends there) so this is an interesting thread to me
Like others said, they attract different kinds of people but there is definitely overlap. There are plenty of young hipster types withrl roommates in Bed Stuy and if anyone wants to buy a rowhouse in Bushwick it is not cheap.
I think of Bushwick as a neo-LES/Williamsburg and Bed Stuy as a neo-Park Slope
Not for nothing, but was just hanging out tonight at a bar on Halsey and Lewis and man is that area changed. All around the Utica stop on the A it's at least 50% white. Kinda neat to see the mix of old timers and young adults in the area.
Yeah, I often see groups of Hispanics hanging out in what appear to be mechanic shops.

That's crazy, the only part of Bushwick which is that white would be a small area near in the Northwest corner of the neighborhood near House of Yes, and that's probably because of intracity tourism rather than the residents. But go a few blocks South to Maria Hernandez park (frequently referred to by locals as Knickerbocker Park), and it's very, very Hispanic.
And Utica is way deeper in Bed Stuy, and sounds like you're describing a whole area. Perhaps Bed Stuy really is flipping faster.

Oh and the inside of bars in gentrifying neighborhoods tend to be way whiter than the neighborhood itself. So be careful not to be mislead by that.
