these bike lanes are awful . they really screwed up northern blvd in douglaston /bayside . we have so many accidents . there was a piece on the news the other day where the bike lanes in lic reduced the traffic down from two lanes to one , wiped out 116 parking spots and you saw emergency vehicles stuck in a line of traffic trying to get through with no where for cars to go .
on 73rd ave you have parked cars now pretty much sitting in the street as their right side became a bike lane . so they moved parking into what was a traffic lane .
we rarely even see anyone use these lanes for bikes too .
The obsession with bike lanes/bus lanes and purposely creating traffic congestion is why I left NYC. Yeah I know traffic was always bad, but Deblasio and Trottenburg are obsessed with making it worse to try to get people to stop driving. Worst thing about them is that they always believe they're right even when it's very obvious they're not.
The bike lanes on Cypress Hills street and bus lanes on Woodhaven pretty much sealed the deal for me. I stopped going to Ozone Park and Howard Beach almost completely and stayed in Glendale because of that.
On Allen St in Manhattan, they still ride on the wrong side of the street and sometimes when they are on the right side of the street, they're not even using the bike lane and are on the other side of the street. Confuses the hell outta me. Osaka made me fear bikers, where there they have no bike lanes and ride on the sidewalk(??). I've been nearly sideswiped walking out of buildings there. I have a very negative sentiment about bikers at this point.
NYC has to compete with major European cities for MONEY, TOURISTS, and YOUNG PEOPLE. The bike lanes will stay. The old complainers will mostly head off to Florida or wherever in the South, which has been going on for decades.

im actually getting sick of all the freaking bike lanes all over the place.
drivers already have problem with so many obstacles already, no we have to watch out for these bike riders.
what makes me crazy is seeing a young woman with a helmut on and a baby in the back compartment of a bike riding down 3rd avenue in brooklyn, and i think to myself, what freaking kind of moron does this.
i know my sister would not do that. 3rd ave is a mega busy road with cars trucks and everything else you can imagine....and there goes miss bike rider with a baby.
i call these people 'organic" meaning they are not from here and are transplants and have not a clue....
They are just a bunch of farmers riding that indie bandwagon.
You actually think all transplants are hippie farmers?
No, it really doesn't. It's the center of the financial, media, and other industries in the US, and more recently gaining ground in technology (especially where tech and media meet.) Young people will come here for the same reason they always have, the jobs are here. The rest is fluff. Bike lanes have nothing to do with this.

Obviously because how things were built, many places in Europe have sensible bike lanes that people actually adhere to. People will come here and visit without bike lanes because it's easy to get around. I am sure if bike lanes disappeared tomorrow, it would have zero impact on tourism.

who said anything about farmers?
