I took a road trip along Cropsey Ave, then up Stillwell to Ave U, and east all the way to Ralph ave/Flatlands, and back to Woodhaven Blvd in Queens,
I started at Bensonhurst Park. I saw pockets of old school European NYCers. I saw some moslems, and some asians too. There were some italian restaurants, a pork Store, and this fascinating little eatery called Brennan and Carr that serves roast beef sandwiches.
What neighborhoods did I pass by? What were the boundaries? The workers at Brennan and Carr said we were in Sheepsheads Bay. I found that funny because I always thought of Sheepsheads Bay as an extension of Brighton Beach with its Russian Jewish community. I have driven down Ocean Parkway on my way to Brighton Beach, and alway saw a lot of Ortho Jews along the sidewalks. I have driven just north of Manhattan Beach/Emmons Ave. Both experiences seem to confirm the homogeneity of the area. Is there a North and South Sheepsheads Bay?
I have driven down New Utrecht Ave and 86th St. Both those streets seem to be dominated, or the beginnings of takeover by Chinese. There is still that Pastosa Ravioli on New Utrecht Ave though. Also the Spumoni Gardens is still around nearby.

My old coworker used to say Brennan and Carr serves the coldest beers ever. Their roast beef sandwiches are on point, I'd say they're better than Roll n Roaster on Emmons avenue. I agree that both are in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood.

I find B&C to be overrated. I gave them a shot---actually I went 2 times. I didn't think it was that great. I also hate dipped sandwiches, but I've tried both ways, and it was so plain to me. When I asked for my sandwich not to be dipped, the waiter basically warned me the meat would probably not be moist enough without it.
I don't recall my beer being that cold. Not noticeably so. But they usually have good service.

I prefer R&R any day.
My opinion may be stale, last time dining at Brennan 3 years ago +-2 years
But I do remember , back then, the beers being very cold.
I ate at R&R recently, and I love the nostalgic feeling it brings out, and the sheer size of the place. Just wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.
Yeh, Brennan and Carr aint anything special. You can go to the diners, and ask for a roast beef sandwich, and ask them to dip in their vat of french onion soup. Probably be better.
Aren't many of them recent immigrants from Eastern Europe? What's so "old school" about that?
Most came in the 70’s and 80’s...didn’t know that people who recently immigrated can afford 6-700k 1 bedroom condos.
