I find it weird that people are complaining about glass towers in LIC in conjunction with Amazon announcing its arrival.
These pics and graphics are from an article from 2016. 2016! Two years ago. And more towers are going up every day. This was long before Amazon announced its arrival. Maybe people are imagining LIC in a time before all these towers but that kind of imaginative time travel is not reality.
This is NYC. A dozen old ladies sitting at home all day can stall billion dollar MTA projects over daytime noise pollution.
Stalking is not blocking. Protesters were not able to stop Fresh Direct from moving to the Bronx. Nor did they stop Columbia’s Manhattanville expansion, the Atlantic Yards project, Hudson Yards, or much of anything. No MTA project has been stopped by a few old ladies. People who complained about the Secnd Avenue Subway opening up a station near they’re building on 86th Street lost.

That’s because MTA is stupid
I remember all the protest during downtown Brooklyn development. All the protest against the Barclays arena, it came anyway. Now downtown Bk looks like mini manhattan and they are just getting started
I agree in trying to push to get rid of the cash grants portion especially. If they can get it done without everyone looking like an ******* in the end, then that'd be great. Make a big ol' PR stunt out of it and have a fun novelty check that gets handed to Amazon that then gets headed to NYC Subway directly to fast track modernizing signals for the Queens Boulevard line.
I have to wonder if this is now a signed deal that they can't back out of without legal repercussions.

Love NYC's wariness about Amazon - Council taking another look
Other cities begged Amazon to come, but not us. Wonder what would happen if we backed out of those tax cuts for Amazon.
New York City Council to Host Hearings on Amazon’s Headquarters Deal
Speaker Johnson expressed concerns that deal was done ‘behind closed doors, with nondisclosure agreements, and without the public or elected officials’
WSJ, by Katie Honan
I wish Amazon would back out and let these stupid City Council members try to come up with solutions to the city's crisises (subway, housing, etc.) without revenue from economic contributors like Amazon.
All they're good for are whining and wacky ideas but no sensible solutions.
That would be cutting off our collective nose to spite our collective face. I get the point, but it would not be desirable.
Let Amazon come, and let the councilcritters stew in their own juices.
