sounds like asking for a handout really. Anyone can take out $100K+ loans and go to grad school, live on noodle soup for 10 years and get a professional job....and then get into more debt.
Bezos said high paying, but we'll see the man greedy. Me thinks 10% going to be "high paying" jobs while the vast majority will be $80K or less.
Amazon will hold job fairs in the projects as well. I’m sure project residents who have degrees will get hired, as Amazon will use this to justify their tax credits. Do essentially Amazon agreed to help out after all. They also mentioned resume building workshops.
This was part of the original DeBlasio/Cuomo deal to begin with, these are not additional concessions.

Why would anyone put themselves into a situation where they can never really get ahead?
He's not putting an office in NYC to hire box stuffers. He wants people with in-demand skills. He'll be paying way more than 80K, because if he doesn't the people he wants to hire will tell his recruiters to screw off, and go to work for Google or Goldman Sachs.

Gov. Cuomo isn’t giving up on bringing Amazon to New York.
The governor, though reeling after Jeff Bezos abruptly reversed field on his plan to build a new headquarters in Queens, renewed his efforts to lure the multi-billion dollar retail giant back to New York City.
The efforts included personal calls between the governor and Amazon founder Bezos, according to The New York Times.
An open letter to Bezos, posted by the Partnership for New York, with cross-section of city leaders urging him to change his mind once more and embrace the nation’s largest city.
“A clear majority of New Yorkers support this project and were disappointed by your decision not to proceed,” the letter reads.
“As representatives of a wide range of government, business, labor and community interests, we urge you to reconsider so that we can move forward together.”
The letter is signed by former Mayor Dinkins and an assortment of pro-Amazon unions, local businesses and various elected officials.
““New York attracts the best, most diverse talent from across the globe,” the open letter ended. “We all hope you reconsider and join us in building the exciting future of New York.”
Cuomo personally held multiple phone conversations with Bezos, who announced with no warning his decision to abandon a Long Island City location for the new Amazon outpost, the Times reported.

With all of these $3k/studio rents towers in LIC that isn't going to be much either. Some of the people most angry with the Amazon deal collapse are the small business people who anticipated more foot traffic.
I see dense towers in LIC but I am not sure of the foot traffic as no doubt many who live there work in Manhattan. I told a friend of mine who lives in Astoria at least a decade ago that LIC was going to blow up rents in the entire area. A friend who owns a condo there saw his value pass $1 million in the late 90s or early 2000s. I can imagine that its triple that now.
So those who claim that Amazon would have brought gentrification are either ignorant or dishonest. Maybe Gianaris should have led protests before the first towers went up more than a decade ago. No doubt campaign contributions from developers was to lucrative for him to do this.

Too late. The deal that he would get will most like be even worse than what he has now. A community benefits with guaranteed benchmarks will not happen. Amazon has already decided that they don't need NYC.
They can get all they need in Jersey City or Newark likely with lower costs and a richer deal. That is if they even want HQ2 in the NY area/
