I know this is not anything new, but has anyone done this? I know many people who went to live in a shelter, with theit kids or by themselves and ended up getting an apartment, their own space, just by doing that. I've been considering doing this. Has anyone been able to do so? I work full time but I'm sick of having roommates.

If you're sick of having roommates, wait until you see your roommates at the shelter!

Please, by all means go because THIS is what affordable housing is for.

I wish HPD/HDC would come on CD to see the scammers.

Well they are not and it happens regularly, so get over yourself. I'm not a scammer

I think you're the one that needs to get over yourself. Most people are in shelters because of things like domestic violence, sexual abuse, house fires, evictions, and all manner of terrible things outside of their control. You just don't like having roommates. Most people don't.

Also, taking unnecessary advantage of resources for people in dire circumstances is scamming. Even if those resources are from the government (and taxpayers) it's still scamming.

Good example why the few give those with ACTUAL problems a bad name. Really a shame.

You have to survive the shelter before they try to provide you with an apartment.

I knew a couple ppl that went through the system, that did need it, took anywhere from 1-2 years. Wasn’t pleasant circumstances.
