The difference in Japan and US is that if you are caught for any crime the conviction rate is 93% In the US, it's 87% but the penalties are much more lenient than Japan. They put more people away for good for drug and gun possessions than we do.
Yakuzas are seen as samurais by some and organized mafias by other modern standards. They are far different than criminals we have here. For example they work armani suits and ties, how many street criminals here dress like that?
Crime in Japan is so rare that they have just a handful of murders. I've been there multiple times and never ever had worries about getting mugged, robbed, or pick pocketed. You don't even bump into knuckheads or getting into scuffles at the bar or at night.
In NYC, a fight is always waiting to happen and to be seen in the subways or the streets.
Well, also take into consideration that certain acts are not considered criminal. For instance, a man raping his wife or someone slapping someone are not crimes in other countries. In the US, these things are considered battery and assault. So statistically, those other countries look better.

Nice try. But just compare 1st world nations to each other. We don't need statistics to know crap countries have high crime.
I saw my first subway physical fight about 2 months ago around 12am. It was within a party of ghetto girls. They were loud among themselves for most of the ride. I transferred and ended up on the exact same train after express stop. When I got on they were now arguing and began fist fighting for 2 stops. "No not you yo, not you. Yo break it up! Aiite fight then! Etc" while throwing n slang bombs after every sentence. One of the girls almost bumped into me while they wrestled on the ground. I stepped over them lol. Should have recorded it.

There is still street crime, robbery, and other petty offenses in Japan. These crimes are not all carried out by honor-buro suit wielding samurais.

Is that count lower than the US? Yup. That doesn't mean USA streets are literal warzones as the pansies seem to suggest. Keep clutching the pearls every time you walk out the door or see someone wearing a dew rag. Because let's be honest by 'certain people' you meant to say minorities and/or anyone wearing hood apparel.

For a population of 128,000,000 - yes, Japan literally has a handful of murders a year. Human nature and large population = murder. That's the rule of law forever. That's not the point.
California alone had 1,800 murders in 2017. The whole country ~17,000 murders (lol).
But since Trump and ICEcapades it has dropped a lot.

Those 300 murders are husband/wife crimes of passion which exist everywhere. There is virtually no street crime in Tokyo. You can leave your wallet on the subway filled with cash and you don't even have to go to the police. Whoever found your wallet will go out of their way and hand deliver it back to you with every penny intact. It's an amazing place.
I've been to Japan twice and everyone agrees with me that NYC 3am and Tokyo 3am I still feel perfectly safe there. Again, NYC isn't safe because criminals will always be ready to steal, rob, beatup whenever given the best opportunity to not get caught. In Japan that simply doesn't happen. There are no hoodlums hanging out or wandering around looking for trouble. it's a very civilized city and Japan overall people have national pride. They're not gonna riot or burn down the stores for any reason. We have people here that hates others and take any opportunity to destroy or rob others when they feel there is lawlessness.

Japan & Korea is a very shame based, "pressure to conform" society. There's a lot of shame attached to being labeled a criminal. Not only for the perpetrator but for the entire family. Nothing ghetto fabulous about being called a thug. There's also national pride and the pressure to make the country as a whole "look good" especially to foreigners. It's a different mind set that's for sure.
