City has a pool of $12 million (USD) taxpayer money to give out in *very* low or no interest and *forgivable* home repair loans they will soon start doling out.
Good. How is this a bad thing? Better them than developers.
Next manufactured outrage by BugsyPal, comin' up!
Nothing "manufactured" about it; if people are so busted they cannot afford to keep their home in good repair, sell it and move on. Why should taxpayers have their pockets picked for more of their hard earned money shoveled into the trough that is public welfare benefits?
As for those developers you mention, if city didn't give them incentives all your precious "afforadable" and "low income" housing largely wouldn't exist. That at least benefits more than a single person.
People need to learn some GD personal responsibility instead of always looking for a touch.

This has been going on in the city for the past 150 years, why complain about it now? Either protest by not paying your property taxes, run for office and change it, or you move yourself. But complaining is the least effective thing to do about it.

Only $12 Million? Imagine how many more homes could have been fixed with the $850 Million Un-Elected Ms. DeBlasio lost.
That money isn't "lost", Sam the Eagle and his Missus know exactly where it went; just so happens no one in government or law enforcement has the balls to dig into the matter.

Excerpt: affordable low- or no-interest and potentially forgivable loans for home repairs to eligible owners of one- to four-family homes in the five boroughs.
Opinion:
So it is basically a low to no interest loan to the average
family of 2 not making more than $140,000 a year
with a maximum loan of $60,000 for one unit ( family). Doesn't even post the current loan rates.
Banks have these services in place with continuously updated public posting of rates. City and Private Unions provide many No interest rate Loans as well through Credit Unions.
Potentially forgivable loans to who? Laughable.....
Certainly not the family of 2 making up to $140,000.
The site needs to display the minimum income for Forgivable Loans requirements
as well as the maximum income eligibility requirement limits of participation rather than asking
to submit your personal information for more in depth details.
Don't like it.................Sounds to shady...................basically a cover for the city
to once again throw away another $12 million of our hard earned tax dollars to the have nots.
I'm afraid to think how much more my upcoming property taxes will rise..another $500 again? ..Sheesh...........

I think it sounds like a great program especially since property taxes and maintenance costs have increased so much in recent years. Allowing people to maintain their homes is in the interest of the public too, since these homes can become eyesores at a minimum, and hazardous at worst, if not kept up.
I went to see a house that had been owned by an elderly man who had recently passed away. It was sad to see the way he had been living. This was a historic home and had been literally falling apart around him. It may have made sense to sell but a lot of people, especially the elderly, are going to do everything they can to stay in their homes.
