Also, prison or jail wont do much to rehabilitate as long as society still sees felons as irredeemable for the most part (any rehabilitative focus of jail would go right out the window once people get out and cant find honest work). But that's a societal/cultural problem that no change to the prison system is going to change in my opinion.

In the interview Deblasio also says every released inmate will be guaranteed a job once there out to get them on their feet until they find a stable job. That is something that will help the problem

A lofty promise, but I'd like to see it carried out. Also, that's not a promise that he can keep for all of the released criminals of tomorrow (you MAY be able to work to find people who are in Rikers now jobs, but that's not something that is sustainable or feasible, financially or otherwise).

It's ok to straddle the fence. Better than choosing a side to be on. Don't blame ya.

If the city is so ******, then how come housing prices aren't going down? Maybe people are just that stupid to keep paying?

The problem with Rikers is the same problem with public schools failing. There is no community and lacking a PTA. That is why schools shutdown and make mini-schools. In Rikers the same community mindset of former prisoners lingers.

The other problem with Rikers is when you hire guards who discriminates. Like a former co-worker got a job at Rikers as correctional officer and honestly she was riled up to harass and beat people. The problem is violent guards like her. She was even violent at work but hide it a lot.

That being said with guards expecting violence and people with the mentality of grade schoolers from the fifth grade is what creates Rikers. I saw the situation of Rikers and it literally looks like my fifth grade lunch room after a food fight. That is what it is. The hip-hop culture turned into the prison culture ( as expected ).

What is stupid is "where are they going to build the prisons? Are you just going to send them up state? because that is what it looks like is going to happen. I know ex-convicts who have been shuffled around with 1st degree attempted murder and still walk free afterwards. They have not once set foot in rikers. They are old.

Next problem will be "The prisons are not diverse enough". I bet they might even just decide to dump them in precinct cells because those are empty most of the time. I bet that is what the plan would be.

Honestly where are you going to build jails when you barely have enough room to house people? By making mini-prisons I am sure to damage the value of possible housing.
