I agree. It's not like criminals are going to be better off at the mini jails.
Criminality is a complex issue. It involves parenting, education, the living and social environment, negative media influences, career prospects, etc.
Also, crime is a very broad activity. white collar crime, armed robbery, murder, rape, arson, etc. So i agree, that Rikers Island should house criminals based on the severity of the crime. All that Rikers Island needs is updated facilities and they have a good amount of free space to do just that.
Exactly. It is a social/cultural problem. Not a prison location problem. Moving prisons around or letting them out isn't going to solve the problem. It starts with the family unit (or lack thereof) in the black (and to some extent the Latino) community.

Same reason why Native Americans live on reservations

The destruction of the family is the greatest crime perpetrated on this country. And it all started with LBJ's Great Society. Subsidizing fatherless children.

Reservations = NYCHA and all other forms of subsidized housing

If you want to talk big picture let's talk big picture then
How's this for a lively discussion??
Yup, public housing is a Leftist idea that did not work. Let's get rid of it. Good luck though trying to because as soon as someone brings that up, the Left will attack it as racism: getting rid of the poor and helping developers.

Public anything is a bad idea actually. Schools, libraries, hospitals, all of it. Why are we just stopping at housing.
The minority living in NYCHA in 2019 is no different than the Native American living on the reservation in 2019.

That's your problem. You don't fully grasp any subject but like to argue. No, schools, libraries, hospitals are not the same as public housing. There are huge differences. One of which is that schools, libraries and hospitals are open for everyone to use. Public housing is limited to just certain people.

They're all subsidized by somebody else
A lot of people on LI complain about this very thing, why should they pay school tax if they have no kids
Stop subsidizing it all

Why do you not understand the idea that it is free for anyone to use versus limited to just certain people? Even though a person have no kids, they have the right to have kids (and thus send them to school). Same with libraries and hospitals. Now, if the school, library and hospitals only allow certain people to use, then you have a point but they don't. Schools, libraries and hospitals as well as fire houses, police departments, bridges, roadways, etc. are for the public benefit. NYCHA and public housing is only for certain people. Big, important difference.
