Can you imagine? 4 people together with a real estate broker, got access to an apartment and moved in, all these were done without the approval from the landlord. After they stayed for days (maybe weeks), the broker informed the landlord, and forced the landlord to keep those people. The landlord disagreed, but the people refused to move out.

So 5 people are living together in an apt without a valid written contract stipulating the lease agreement, etc??

That's terrible. I hope the landlord can evict them quickly, but I think evictions are paused now.The broker should lose his license at the very least, and the landlord should file for civil lawsuit too against the broker requesting damages.

More like nightmare of a broker and tenants.

More likely "a landlord's nightmare". Could be a native speaker of a language that uses this construction to show possession.

Super confused.

Who did they pay first month rent to? Security deposit paid to whom? What lease did they sign?

Truly is the nightmare of a landlord. Once they start getting mail and live there past a certain time period they will get squatters rights.

Not that easy. There is squatters rights. You still have to go through processes, and that can take a month or two.
