Leaving New York: How to Choose the Right Suburb
Set your priorities — walkable town, easy commute, good schools, waterfront access or something else? Then start exploring.
For this article, I asked more than 20 real estate agents in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut to recommend places to move within two hours of New York City, based on eight different criteria. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/07/r...-new-york.html
Ridiculous Property taxes will keep anybody away from New York.
West Hartford was the most affordable. Scoring an 83 in livability is
an awesome score. It reminds me of the once nicer neighborhoods in
Queens of long ago.
Sadly most people reading that and following its advice will be a net detriment to wherever they go. It even reads like an UWS liberal author - OH GO HERE ITS SO ARTSY AND JEWISH EXCEPT WITHOUT THOSE NASTY NEGROES IN THE SCHOOLS! New Yorkers are a plague and mostly should be buried under the ocean.
I want land, I want 3-4 car garage, and I want great nature. Boating. ATVing. Rving.
I dont need neighbors, shopping malls, loads of restaurants. Less people the better.
Fresh air, mountains.
Problem is, when you have two small kids, good schools mean higher taxes and more density. I can take my NYC salary and work from home some where else where its cheaper.

....Not necessarily true about the good schools must equal high taxes. Do some research....a good school , plus other amenities of life you seek...and even "modest" taxes(this is, afterall, NY) do exist within this state.

Modest taxes in Ny state? Where exactly? As most of the norther part of state was economically depressed before covid, not sure how it will be after.
Also, Cuomo will raises taxes sooner than later, it will effect everyone.
You're probably really nice, but I don't want to live near someone who instead of calling 911 for me will give milk and cookies to the perp and try to reconcile their downtrodden upbringing.

How did you come to that conclusion?
