THE DOUGHNUTS excerpt (from the Chicago Public Library Collection), 1963, Weston Woods, 16mm., Color, Sound
In honor of National Doughnut Day, here is an excerpt from THE DOUGHNUTS,
a short children's film based on a chapter from "Homer Price" by Robert McCloskey.
Homer is left to attend to his Uncle Ulysses' bakery, while Ulysses is off
gambling with the sheriff. Watch Homer and some weird, unexplained door-to-door salesman try to deal with a malfunctioning doughnut machine! Dramatic stuff!!

I love mochi donuts, sadly not many places make them good. For my taste the best mochi donuts in NYC goes to MOCHI MOCHI inside of MACHI MACHI in k town.

For NJ people who love mochi donuts or curious the best one (better than nyc) is inside of MITSUWA market in edgewater and called KAI SWEETS

Wish Dunkin Donuts served flavors like that since they're only across the street from me
Some years ago, someone brought Dunkin Donuts to our office that was new. We all looked at him like he was crazy. My stomach churned thinking about it. I had one just to break bread with the guy, but it was so boring, plus they load their donuts with such garbage. You can taste it, especially if you are used to food without the artificial this and that. Ironically I do like some of their munchkins. They are a bit more dense than their regular donuts.

I eat a donut like twice a year (if that) so I'm not worried about what's in it, its not meant to be eaten on a regular anyway

Doughnut Plannnnnnnnt. They manage somehow (at least for most of them) to be just barely not too sweet. My favorite is the creme brulee donut, but it's not much to look at.

Spending my summer in Jersey City and I hit up this place in Fort Lee. https://www.glazedonuts.com/

The good news is they're opening up their flagship store in Long Island City. They're incredible!

Dough, I used to live right next door to their first location in Bed-Stuy, they have now permanently closed and another doughnut store took its place (ran by the chef of Dough's first location, a pastry chef from Mexico City). So I will put the new spot on the same level (now called FanFan Doughnuts).

I've been to Peter Pan, even to Mo's (former Peter Pan employee who ended up opening his own store), they're good but in my opinion no comparison. Dougnut Plant has many flavors, but Dough and FanFan Doughnut's texture is outstanding.

Dough used to have a cheesecake doughnut (don't know if they still do I havn't had any in over 4 years) and it was banging !

They opened many other locations over time and I just noticed today one off Ditmars Boulevard. Their prices kept going up every 6 months on average. Not sure whether they still do or not but they used to supply their doughnuts to local cafes. they used to be $2.95 a piece ten years ago.

The founder (a Frenchman) is a pure douche bag though, and known for it, which caused amongst other things the dispute with his former Chef who now runs her own store on the same corner as the original location...but this is another issue.
