The National Dominican Day Parade was celebrated Sunday through a hybrid production in Midtown with in-person marches and virtual speeches.
The annual commemoration is led by nonprofit NatDDP.org, an organization which promotes cultural awareness and helps to raise funds through scholarships for talented students (these awards were distributed at a gala in the Greentree Country Club in New Rochelle on Aug. 6.)
This year’s theme is dedicated to New York City’s comeback entitled, “Hacia Delante and Move Forward,” showcasing the steadfast work, perseverance, and dedication of Dominican New Yorkers.
I didnt know it was a Dominican Day last weekend when I made plans to take the kids camping, unfortunately too close to NYC fo their first camping trip.
The the loud music kept booming from a sound system from 5pm all the way to 5am accompanied by loud yelling. Their camp site was a quarter mile away so I can only imagine the decibel level near them. I felt sorry for poor kids who were trying to sleep.
Next time, Ill glance at the calendar to make sure this doesn't happen.
Good news? No bears due to loud music and no one got shot.
I generally don't like parades because parts of the city are cordoned off (and the larger the parade, the more inconvenient it is..Gay Pride, Puerto Rican, St. Pat's) and as a pedestrian, it's annoying running into a bunch of rowdy and drunk people although Gay Pride is better of the 3 (not so many drunks, just really, really happy people). I think the Dominican is smaller. But anyway, as long as they're having fun and not causing mayhem, whatever.
Just watch any Pitbull, Tego Calderon or Daddy Yankee video
But don't go to DR unless you want to die from moonshine poisoning (or COVID)
I have been 4 times and back. Need to go again eventually.
...MMMMMmambo.
