For the poster, if you want a "nice" 1BR, you're going to have to commute. Rents are just high everywhere around the country. I say pull up a NJ Transit, LIRR, and Metro North map at http:\\mta.info. You can probably get away with living close to a train station the further out you are. And you'll get all the serenity and inexpensive apartments that you're looking for. Good luck!
