Hello Everyone,

I live in rent stabilized unit with a key card entry to the building and apartment. I have girlfriend that stays over a few days a week and also works in the apartment while I am in the office. Is it okay she has my key card? She was stopped last week and asked by the super if she lived in the building. She replied no and was told she shouldn't have my key card and that it would be taken away from me if it happens again. I am confused. I do not see any language in the lease that states what the super said. Should I ask management about this?

No, she cannot. Having a key means she lives there, coming and going when she pleases. How often does she stay overnight? After one month she can rival you as a tenant. Works also at the apartment......wow! She is pratically your roommate. Does the LL know about this? He has to and he will raise your rent.

I see. It is a rent stabilized unit which means they can't rise the rent, but I understand the liability of her becoming a potential tenant. I will clear this up with management. Thank you for the advice.

What will your way of "clearing this up" be?

Sorry, but that's just incorrect. The OP should make sure that they read their lease. We had FOB keys in my old place and were not to give them to anyone.
