But, of course. I know that. What I didn't know was there are "pronounced differences between boroughs".

Local leaders vow tough consequences for violence against Asians, Jews and other discriminated-against groups. But just 15% result in a hate crime conviction — and just 1% in The Bronx.

Should there be tough consequences for violence against any discriminated-against groups? Absolutely. However, just because the suspect and victim are of two different ethnicities/races and get into an altercation - it doesn't mean it's a hate crime so I can understand some discrepancies.

Interesting. Last night's episode of “The Equalizer” centered around hate crimes and how few of them lead to trials and convictions. It was about how a former Chinese-American cop helps to solve a hate crime in Chinatown. Lots in it about how tough convictions are to come by.

The alleged perpetrators in many cases are young people exempt from the hate crimes penal code
or those who have mental illness at the root of their conduct.

So the average citizen needs to understand that if being attacked by a young person or
a mentally ill person has only the choice to deescalate the situation?

and for criminals that are not young or ill......if apprehended.....

the average citizen needs to remember that both parties need to show up for court over and over in this backed up judicial system ?

This is not about race.

This is about lack of policing,
This is about lack of law.
This is about people trying to get by
who simply can not afford to take the time
off to see justice carried out.

But it is about race. Have you not seen/heard the calls for equity?

With blacks being overrepresented within the criminal justice system, since they can't just go around and throw white people in jail to even things out, Dems have started to decriminalize a lot of 'crimes' that black people were overrepresented in being the perpetrators of.

A lot of former crimes SHOULD be decriminalized, starting with ALL drug offenses.

Decriminalizing some things (like drugs) are ok (to an extent) but it's all of the other sh*t (starting with bail reform) that has caused this spike in crime.

Black privilege. Even when a crime is posted in public for all to see the usual characters still find excuses to justify their behavior. Everything from poverty to mental illness to redlining bank loans (lol) and (the favorite) systemic racism. None of these can explain why a black man will decide to shove a random Asian woman onto the train tracks or slash open an Asian man's face with a switchblade while screaming ching chong kung flu. Just the usual hooting and hollering excuses in the media. Been the same since the days of Al Sharpton and Jessie Jackson.

There is actually a brilliant, genius way to reduce "official crime statistics". Just don't arrest people who commit crimes! Whoever could have thought it was that simple?! Magic, huh?

You get the right people in the right positions in state and local gov't, and its very do-able. Then you can have press releases showing how you have lowered crime! And how it is "not really that bad" and "drastically lower than years past". Voila!
