That is because you apparently didn't read the article. It says this...

"More than 1,500 NYPD officers have either resigned or retired so far this year – on pace to be the biggest exodus of officers since the statistics have been available, The Post has learned."

It is not the "retiring" part that is news. It is the "biggest exodus" part.

How about this from the article.

“Last year the number of cops who quit before becoming eligible for their full pension was the highest in two decades. This year we are on pace for the highest ever recorded,” the source said.

Actually, you should just read the article and all of your questions will be answered.

Actually a lot of these guys are younger than your class. From the article...

Even better! The city doesn’t deserve cops at all.

And how do you know that this isn't an aberration year due to a lot of people being forced to quit because of the vaccination mandate? How does the quit rate at NYPD compare with other city agencies this year vs prior years? I would bet there are similarities, a lot more people quit city service. The media wrote stories about low morale in the city government/ wanting more flexibility to work from home. How do you figure this isn't also in line with the so called 'great resignation' trend - people wanting to switch up careers since the job market is good.

If the retiring part is not news, then why even mention it

The large number could also be due to the amount of hiring that took place in the late 90’s early 2000’s.
Turn the question for those who have their time in is?
Stay on the job and maybe get in big trouble? Or retire with 6 figures and move on? I would think it’s pretty clear.

The problem with large outbound movement is you get inexperienced people training new hires. Blind-leading-the-blind kinda thing.

Eric Adams Says He’s Not Worried About NYPD Officers Leaving in Large Numbers

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2...large-numbers/

LOL I wouldn't worry either if I rode around in a motorcade and I was protected full time by armed police, along with my home and family.

You can't make this stuff up.
