The system is setup to be as "Fair" as possible. Doing a written exam and all the other pre employment requirements removes any subjectiveness in the hiring process that you would see in the private sector. However, to achieve the objective hiring results, it creates a lot of red tape and time delays to work through.

I've never taken a civil service exam. I've never been a government employee. I did work for a consulting firm as a contractor at the Board of Education once. That was an interesting exposure to government work. I wasn't looking to go back.

For anyone that took the recent 2060 exam for Sanitation Worker, the list has been published, but not established yet. Only 31,290 people are on the new list.
